Elmer takes a potshot at Milo's bunny

Here's my third sketch in Willie's Mole. Mine's on the right and Milo's super cool bunny is on the left.

Random things taken out of my pocket

Random things taken out of my pocket, by Mary Stebbins Taitt. In Willie's Mole. LOL! The stupid pen started running out of ink at the end and I did not have another the same color (burgundy).

Bagelboy's moly is on the way to Steve!!

Ammon's Book

Sorry. Apologies to Milo (& everyone) - I'm running v. late with this month's contributions. I will do better!

I've finally (finally!) discovered the birth of cool, beebop, modern, whatever you want to call it - all I know is, the older I get the less I'm interested in trivia and more in the stuff that matters. So, I ordered this bunch of Blue Note Jazz records and for the first time I'm understanding the groove. All of these bar one are influenced by Miles, Art, ''Cannonball'', 'Trane, et al.

Self-Portrait of the Artist as a Shaman at an Autumnal Poem

My last piece in Mike Kline's Big Book, and I hope to mail it off tomorrow.

The last self portrait I made was younger and prettier than I really am these days. This one I look a bit haughty, but I am supposed to look as if I am examining the viewer with a skeptical, careful eye.

Moleskin Politics (Sorry) Vote Libertarian!

Beautiful Dream + 12 Impromptus

A week away from the sketchbook, and the computer, as we have been on holiday in the Isles of Scilly. Just before we left, the page below was finished, and just after our return I drew a re-do of an old favourite above.

12 impromptus was drawn whilst listening to Mahler's 1st, Sun Ra 'The Magic City', Malcolm Arnold's 5th & 6th Symphonies, and Faust 'IV'. Not deliberately reacting to the music though - just a soundtrack.

collage beasts and their collage masters

It's that time of month again where it's time to send out the book. I've found myself much more free, creative and willing to experiment when working in other people's books instead of mine. You would think it would be the opposite, but this is not the case. In this case, I worked completely in collage - no drawing whatsoever. These were all made in Ian Russell's book, so I hope he enjoys these. Once again, I had no clue what to make or where to begin. I definitely wanted to do something with collage again, and while sorting through some material, I found a recent free catalogue for kids from the recent Martin Puryear exhibit in DC. Puryear is an amazing sculptor from the DC area who builds these structures from different types of wood and other materials. I had some extra copies, so I decided to use only the catalogue and nothing more. To begin, I simply started cutting with no clue what to make. Pieces started resembling animals - strange cats and birds and the like. Still, they needed something more, so I gave each animal a "master" or a caretaker. I'm not sure how many people's books I've worked in at this point, but I do know that so far, these were the most fun to make, more than anything else.

a photography project of mine

Hi everyone,

I'm plugging a project I'm doing now-- a "pay what you want" run of four of my favorite photo prints. If you click on the below image it will take you to my blog entry where I explain in more detail...

Cheers :)

Harvest

Harvest, by Mary Stebbins Taitt. I suppose this is the quintessential cliche of autumn, but I couldn't resist. In Mike Kline's Big Book. Polychromos pencils and graphite pencil.

{And let me tell you, the scan is terrible! I the barn is red, the sky is blue. (all those nice clicheed colors!) Oh well.}

I am leaving Thursday for 4-days at a poetry conference/retreat/workshop in Harbor Springs, MI.

Keep the Creative Fires Burning

Four pages in Andrea's. The words read: Stream of Heat/keep the creative fires burning/Ritual Fire Footie/Inventive Embers. Drawn from all sides - all ways are up. This spread is preceded by Ray Gun, see below. What what what to do next I wonder?...
